Three Souls

Two calla lilies rise into a sun that fills the whole sky — one white as smoke, one deep as garnet — bowing toward each other like figures in conversation. The third is the light that holds them.

The painting is built in layers of oil, so the surface keeps changing as you move past it — thicket, then fire, then field. A photograph holds it still; in person it doesn't stay still.
